Game Design for the Popularization of Astronomical Knowledge Part 2

2025年秋季学期本人与王萌老师、赵茁栋老师授课的《设计技术3》课程与上海天文馆合作完成教学,通过这门课程同学们掌握了数字游戏设计与开发的基本原理与核心技能,以合作方天文馆提供的“天文科普游戏”为题进行功能性游戏的设计,并基于Unity引擎完成了游戏原型的开发,以下为最终成果,敬请观赏:
In the Autumn semester of 2025, the Design Technology 3 was taught by me and Prof. Meng Wang and Teacher Zhuodong Zhao in collaboration with the Shanghai Astronomy Museum. In this course, the students learned the fundamental principles and essential skills for digital game design and development. They designed serious games based on the creative direction offered by our patterner, namely “game design for the popularization of astronomy knowledge”, and developed game prototypes with the Unity engine.

6. 重返星海 · Astronaut Aircraft Artemis

设计思路:人类不会因为失败而停止对星空的渴望,希望玩家看到航天事业的成功是由无数次的实验经验所累积得到的。
主玩法:战斗系统将粒子的各种属性交由玩家控制,鼓励玩家进行尝试,通过编辑形成不同连锁效果,同时可以运用于火箭的构建,将身上的物品挂载于火箭上,发生燃烧、涡轮增压等效果。粒子碰撞系统,根据物理系统计算伤害,还可以计算火箭推力。
主线剧情:经历巨大天体灾难后的废土世界,掌权者倡导宗教,畏惧天空。禁止天文学相关研究。主角搜寻毁灭前的航天器及科技成果,并且破除群众对天空的畏惧。

Design Concept: Humanity never ceases its longing for the stars because of failure. We hope players will see that the success of the aerospace industry is built on countless experiments and accumulated experience.
Gameplay Mechanics: The combat system lets players control various properties of particles, encouraging experimentation to create different chain reactions through editing. These mechanics can also be applied to rocket construction: equipping items onto the rocket triggers effects such as combustion and turbocharging. The particle collision system calculates damage based on physics, and also computes rocket thrust.
Main Story: In a post-apocalyptic world after a massive celestial disaster, the ruling power promotes religion and instills fear of the sky, banning all astronomical research. The protagonist searches for pre-catastrophe spacecraft and technological achievements, striving to overcome the people’s fear of the heavens.

7. 卡西尼号的壮丽终章 · CASSINI:Before the Fall

2017年,卡西尼号燃料将尽,开启被NASA称为“壮丽终章”的最后任务:在最后22圈轨道中首次穿越土星与土星环之间的极窄缝隙,完成最接近土星的观测,并最终坠入大气层以避免污染卫星。游戏以卡西尼第一视角重现这段不可逆的倒计时,让玩家在轨道收紧、系统愈发脆弱与数据回传中,体会探索、风险与科学伦理的抉择——见证人类如何抵达,也如何告别。这个体验的主要玩法是:在不可逆的倒计时里,玩家需要规划掠过窗口与轨道调整,完成拍照采样与信号对准等交互来推进章节与回忆过场。

In 2017, as Cassini neared the end of its fuel supply, it embarked on its final mission, dubbed by NASA the Grand Finale: during its last 22 orbits, it would for the first time pass through the extremely narrow gap between Saturn and its rings, conduct the closest-ever observations of the planet, and ultimately plunge into Saturn’s atmosphere to avoid contaminating its moons.
The game recreates this irreversible countdown from Cassini’s first-person perspective. As the orbit tightens, systems grow increasingly fragile, and data is transmitted back to Earth, players experience exploration, risk, and ethical choices in science—witnessing how humanity arrives among the stars, and how we say goodbye.
Core gameplay: within an irreversible countdown, players plan flyby windows and orbital maneuvers, completing interactions such as photography, sampling, and signal alignment to advance chapters and trigger reflective cutscenes.

8. 太阳系特调 · Solar Special

本游戏是一款以太阳系为叙事背景的模拟经营类游戏。玩家通过经营一家行星主题饮品店获取资源与奖励,并在经营与探索的过程中逐步解锁隐藏剧情,揭示店铺背后不为人知的宇宙秘密。
遥远的未来,太阳系里住着各种各样的外星生物,而他们都有一个共同点一一爱喝饮料。更麻烦的是,他们对口味极其执着:一旦喝不到喜欢的饮料就会情绪失控,甚至引发骚乱和暴乱。因此,太阳系里有一家看似温馨可爱的饮品店,实际上却是维系秩序的关键岗位。你每天要面对挑剔又危险的顾客,用不同星球的特产物质调出他们”必须喝到”的味道,稍有差池就可能出事。你因为犯了错被派遣到这里,从上一任店长手里接过工作。他一边教你上手,一边留下若有若无的警告:这份差事到底是惩罚,还是你真正会爱上的生活?一切从你开店的第一天开始。

This game is a simulation and management game about the solar system. Players run a planet-themed drink shop to earn resources and rewards, and gradually unlock hidden stories during management and exploration to reveal the unknown cosmic secrets behind the store.
In the distant future, a wide variety of alien creatures live across the solar system—and they all share one thing in common: a love for drinks. What’s more, they are extremely particular about flavors: if they can’t get their favorite drinks, they lose control, even causing disturbances and riots. Beneath its warm and cute appearance, a drink shop in the solar system actually plays a key role in maintaining order. Every day, you face picky yet dangerous customers, mixing flavors they “must have” using special materials from different planets. The slightest mistake could lead to disaster. You were sent here as punishment, taking over the job from the previous manager. While teaching you the ropes, he leaves vague warnings: is this job merely a punishment, or a life you will truly come to love? Everything begins on your first day of running the shop.

9. 晷中时序 · Solar Terms in the Sundial

本游戏是一款以古天文仪器日晷与“二十四节气”为主题的解谜游戏。背景设定在公元3347年,玩家将加入一项古天文研究计划,操作一台考古发现的日晷仪。日晷内部封印着一条小玉龙——他曾为保护二十四节气,将节气灵气封存于自身体内,却也因而失去记忆,被长久禁锢于晷盘之中。玩家的使命是指引玉龙在日晷世界的投影之间穿行,于各个节气点收集失落的节气灵气,逐步找回那段被时光掩埋的千年文明记忆。
在游戏中,玩家可通过调节太阳的方位角与高度角,改变日晷指针及其他物体的影长与方向,从而搭建道路,引导玉龙前往不同节气点。探索过程中,你还能运用“改变时间”的能力,赋予静物新的生机;经过节气点可以解锁新的道具与能力;旅途中也会遇见愿意伸出援手的小伙伴。请细心观察环境、巧妙运用技能,帮助玉龙集齐节气灵气,解开古老封印。

This game is a puzzle game themed on the ancient astronomical instrument sundial and the Twenty-Four Solar Terms. Set in 3347 AD, players join an ancient astronomy research program and operate an archaeologically discovered sundial. Sealed inside the sundial is a little jade dragon — who once sealed the spirits of the Twenty-Four Solar Terms within himself to protect them, only to lose his memory and be trapped inside the dial for a long time. The player’s mission is to guide the jade dragon through projections in the sundial world, collect lost solar term spirits at each solar term point, and gradually retrieve the memories of a millennial civilization buried by time.
In the game, players can adjust the azimuth and altitude angle of the sun to change the length and direction of shadows cast by the sundial pointer and other objects, thus building paths to guide the jade dragon to different solar term points. During exploration, you can also use the ability to “alter time” to bring new life to still objects; passing solar term points unlocks new items and abilities; and you will meet companions willing to help along the journey. Observe the environment carefully and use your skills wisely to help the jade dragon gather all solar term spirits and break the ancient seal.

10. 星途 · Path of Stars

在《星途》的宇宙中,一场神秘的异常事件导致星座破碎,星辰碎片散落银河系各处。随着星辰的消失,黑暗开始蔓延,威胁着吞噬整个宇宙,抹去曾经指引无数世界的光芒。一位孤胆旅者挺身而出,肩负起在为时已晚之前找回失落的碎片、修复破碎星座的重任。每一颗被找回的星辰都为天空带来希望,驱散黑暗,并缓慢地重建宇宙的平衡与和谐。
游戏玩法:玩家必须在限定时间内找到收集所需星星的最快、最有效的路线。每个关卡都包含多条路线、不断变化的平台、黑洞和危险障碍,考验玩家的反应速度和策略规划能力。玩家需要通过反复尝试来学习,逐步掌握路线和时机。星星既是目标,也是生存工具,因为未能收集到星星会导致视力下降和生命值损失。收集到足够的星星后,玩家需要完成星座拼图才能继续前进,而巧妙的移动、明智的选择和精准的操作将获得丰厚的回报。

In the universe of Path of Stars, a mysterious anomaly has shattered the constellations, scattering star fragments across the galaxy. As stars vanish, darkness spreads, threatening to devour the entire cosmos and erase the light that once guided countless worlds. A lone traveler steps forward, tasked with retrieving the lost fragments and restoring the broken constellations before it is too late. Each recovered star brings hope to the sky, drives back the darkness, and slowly rebuilds balance and harmony in the universe.
Gameplay: Players must find the fastest and most efficient route to collect the required stars within a time limit. Each level features multiple paths, moving platforms, black holes, and dangerous obstacles, testing players’ reflexes and strategic planning. Players learn through repeated attempts, gradually mastering routes and timing. Stars serve as both objective and survival tool: failing to collect them results in reduced vision and lost health. After gathering enough stars, players must complete a constellation puzzle to progress, where skillful movement, wise choices, and precise actions are richly rewarded.
