A Collection of Games Inspired by Classical Chinese Literature Part 1

  2023年秋季学期本人任教的《设计技术3》课程与腾讯互娱社会价值研究中心合作完成教学,通过这门课程同学们掌握了数字游戏设计与开发的基本原理与核心技能,以腾讯互娱提供的“古诗文的现代演绎”为题进行功能性游戏的设计,并基于Unity引擎完成了游戏原型的开发,以下为最终成果,敬请观赏:
  In the Autumn semester of 2023, the Design Technology 3 was taught in collaboration with the Social Value Research Institute of Tencent Interactive Entertainment. In this course, the students learned the fundamental principles and essential skills for digital game design and development. They designed serious games based on the five research directions offered by the Tencent, namely “modern expression of classical Chinese literature”, and developed game prototypes with the Unity engine.

1. 蓬莱 · Penglai

  《蓬莱》是一款以中国古代蓬莱神话体系为灵感来源的3D古风解谜游戏。游戏故事发生在渤海以东的蓬莱仙岛,这里楼宇交叠、云雾缭绕,是蓬莱八仙的居住之地。玩家所扮演的小道士因偶然得到了封印仙境入口的古籍而误入其中,展开了寻访蓬莱八仙、探索蓬莱仙境的旅程。

  Penglai is a 3D puzzle game of traditional Chinese aesthetics inspired by the Penglai mythological system in ancient China. The story takes place in Penglai Immortal Island, full of fabulous buildings, hidden in fog in the east of the Bohai Sea. This island is the place where the Eight Immortals of Penglai reside. The player plays the role of a young Taoist priest who accidentally gets the ancient book that conseals the entrance to the fairyland and mistakenly enters it. Then, the priest embarks on a journey to explore the island and to visit the Eight Immortals of Penglai.

2. 山海 · Mountain and Ocean

  《山海》的整个故事围绕着上古典籍《山海经》中的地理和物产展开,游戏主人公是《山海经》千年孕育而出的小精灵,拥有《山海经》所有的知识,他本该自由自在地徜徉于山海之间,但由于现实世界中人们对《山海经》的遗忘,书中世界发生灾难,山海就此失落,小精灵也失去了记忆。游戏从失忆的小精灵醒来开始,玩家将扮演小精灵进入陷入混乱的山海世界为其恢复秩序。

  The story of Shanhai revolves around the geography and creatures in the ancient book ShanHaiJing. The main character of the game is an elf born from ShanHaiJing after a thousand years of gestation. He possesses all the knowledge of Shanhaijing. However, because more and more people in the real world forget about Shanhaijing, a disaster happened in the world of the book: the mountains and the sea lost their shapes, and the elf lost his memory as well. The game starts with the awakening of the amnesiac elf, whose role the player will take in the game to restore order to this chaotic Shanhai world.

3. 乐诗 · Prosody

  《乐诗是一款让玩家在诗词中寻觅、体味曲乐之美的叙事体验游戏。这款游戏以《东京梦华录》为文学背景,讲述了北宋年间汴京城繁华酒楼中的小乐师吴为用音乐治愈失忆者的故事。游戏需要玩家在场景中以寻物的方式开启音游子游戏、收集音乐碎片,并在最终演奏时将符合条件的碎片拖入演奏序列,这些碎片便会叠加融合在一起,以完美的演奏顺利通关。

  Prosody is a narrative game that encourages players to seek and savour the beauty of music and poetry. Based on the classical book Dong Jing Meng Hua Lu, this game tells the story of Wu Wei, an ordinary musician in a bustling restaurant in Bianjing City during the Northern Song Dynasty, where he helped to cure an amnesiac with music. The player is expected to find and trigger key items in the scene to start playing music mini-games in order to collect music fragments. These fragments must be correctly combined before the final session to offer a perfect performance so as to win the game.

4. 知白守黑 · Philosophical Runner

  《知白守黑》是一款融合了黑白哲学与辩证思维的2D平台跳跃游戏。游戏名称来源于老子《道德经》中的一句箴言“知其白,守其黑,为天下式”,这句箴言融合了汉字的结构之美与辩证的处事之道,而玩家将扮演古代小人物,穿梭于汉字之间,克服重重挑战、做出人生抉择。

  Philosophical Runner is a 2D platformer that combines traditional Chinese philosophy with dialectical thinking. The name of the game comes from a saying in Lao Tzu’s DaoDeJing, “Knowing rules and truth, keeping faith and integrity. This can be a model for the world”. It combines the beauty of Chinese characters and the dialectical way of coping with life. The player plays as an ordinary ancient people, travelling among Chinese characters, overcoming the obstacles and making life choices.

5. 饶舌传 · King of Couplet

  《饶舌传》是一款角色扮演类的剧情向探索游戏,玩家将在游戏中扮演一位在天庭打工的无名小仙,因意外流落人间,只能通过不断对诗从而寻回力量重返天庭,并且还要在此过程中查明整个事件背后的真相。游戏的核心玩法在于探索场景,收集灵感词汇,并与NPC以对诗的方式进行对战。

  Kong of Couplet is a story-oriented exploration game in which the player takes on the role of an unnamed fairy working in the Heavenly Court, who has been stranded in the mortal world due to an accident. He can only regain his power and return to the Heavenly Court by continuously join couplet battles. He also needs to find out the truth behind the whole incident in the process. The core gameplay lies in scenes exploration, inspirational vocabulary collection, and competing with NPCs in the form of couplet battles.
